Here follows some simple principles that can give you an idea of the conditions for the race.
Members of a team must always be found in a distance short enough to communicate with each other, meaning that they should be able to communicate verbally and see each other at all times.
If a person leaves the contest the team-mate is allowed to continue the race out of the competition and only if another team accepts the lonely runner as an "extra member". Nobody is allowed to finish any or part of stages without a team-mate unless it is a specific part of the race or made necessary by an emergency.
It might be necessary to adjust the stages during the race, maybe even after the runners have started the stage. The weather conditions in the region are not always stable and changes can happen with very short notice.
All contestants must bring a mountain bike, helmet for biking, sleeping bag, camping mattress, water bottle or similar and a compass. GAR provides all equipment needed for advanced disciplines, equipment for walking the glacier, sea kayaking and abseiling included. GAR provides a blouse with the team number and an emergency aid which must be carried during all stages.
