What is the Greenland Adventure Race?

The Greenland Adventure Race (GAR) is world class adventure sport. The race is held during 5 days in September in the beautiful and rough terrain in South Greenland. The tough competition is between teams of two where the runners have to cross a glacier and gushing streams, abseil down steep mountain sides, mountain bike through coarse and bumpy terrain, and kayak in and out between icebergs. The race is approximately 190 km. Each day's stage is completed anywhere between 4 hours for the fastest and 9 hours for the slowest teams.

Both the crew, the security personnel and the rest of the people behind the scene are volunteers participating in the event only for feeling the atmosphere and the satisfaction of giving the contesters the best possible experience. During the actual race 60-70 people work to make the race run smoothly. These volunteers are mostly officials and private boats from the region.

Open Stage

If five days of racing is too much you might consider enrolling with your partner for the Open Stage. The Open Stage is a minor competition within the greater where you and others who is satisfied simply by a one day challenge will compete against the regular contestants. During GAR´10 stage three is open, a marathon in the beautiful area around the settlement of Qassiarsuk.
